Design Considerations When Using a Logo

An organization can be immediately recognized by its logo due to the graphical form and colors. However on a website, the logo has to blend into the style and at the same time still be immediately recognizable. Depending on the colors used, the background, and the template style, it might be necessary to change the logo in the following ways:

  • give it a transparent background so that it integrates with the site background,
  • put a frame around it so that it stands out,
  • change the color scheme – i.e. change it to monochrome, emboss it.

To be able to do these graphical changes to your advantage, it is necessary to have the logo working files.

Preparing Your Logo To Send To E&I

E&I needs your logo in digital form. If possible, try to get your logo from your logo supplier in its working file format – if not, scan the logo as best as you can. More details below.

File Formats

If possible supply us your logo in one of the following graphic program working file formats:

  • Gimp
  • Photoshop

and a photo image of your logo i.e. a jpg file, so that we can see how your finished logo should look like.

If this is not possible please send us your logo in one of the following electronic formats:

  • png (preferred)
  • jpg or jpeg
  • bmp
  • tiff

The logo should have the following “nice to have” quality

  • 300 dpi
  • roughly 300 × 300 px size
  • 90+ % compression

or a minimum of: 70 dpi minimum 120 px size

If you have another format which is not listed above, you can send it to us and we will try to convert it.

Scanning of Logos

If you do not have your logo in electronic form, you can try scanning a print of your logo. The better the scanning quality, the better the logo will look on your website. Best results are achieved when you do the following:

  • scan from a photo.
  • scan the largest logo print you have
  • scan with 300 dpi
  • do a color scan

If you only have a printed prospect or business card, scan it, but you might find that the scanned picture, when viewed in a internet browser, looks smudged or unclear.

Sending Files

Please send your electronic files per e-mail to us. If you have problems with sending your files via e-mail:

  • we can supply you with an upload possibility
  • or send us an electronic link where we can pick it up either via ftp, http or scp /ssh.

If you want to send us your file per postage (snail mail), please contact us about the best postal address.

Copyright

Some logo designers only allow their customers to use their logo on paper correspondence. Please verify that you have the rights to use your logo on your website.

Bad Logo Quality

If you don’t have a good quality image of your logo, our designers can rebuild an electronic version for you. Please ask for a quote.
